The drivetrain in your European automobile consists of numerous parts including the axles, driveshaft, transmission, and wheels. These parts move together to turn the wheels so your vehicle moves. The drivetrain should be inspected annually to make sure there is nothing wrong. We are going to list below the signs that your European automobile’s drivetrain is going bad.
Constant Vibration
The drivetrain is located underneath your European automobile, so if there is a problem, you will feel it underneath your automobile. In other words, if the vehicle is shaking underneath the body, this is a sign that there is a problem with the drivetrain. Specifically, it may be time to replace the universal joint or the driveshaft bushings. Failure to do so can cause additional problems.
Strange Noises
The drivetrain can also start to make noise if it is going bad. For example, the drivetrain needs to be lubricated regularly to prevent the universal joint and the bearings from squeaking or squealing. This can also be a sign that the drivetrain fluid needs to be replaced.
If the universal joint needs to be replaced, it will make a loud clunking noise that comes from underneath your European automobile. This noise may also sound like a knocking sound. As an aside, a broken suspension spring can also clunk underneath the vehicle.
Finally, if the drivetrain is scraping or rattling, the drivetrain is overdue for a fluid change and lubrication. If your European automobile is making any strange noise underneath the body, drive straight to our shop so we can inspect the drivetrain. There’s no point in causing additional damage.
Shuddering Acceleration
Finally, your European automobile should always accelerate smoothly. If it shakes or shudders, there is a problem with the center bearings or universal joints in the drivetrain. Unfortunately, this shuddering is an indication that either of these parts needs to be replaced. We can do that here at our shop. This will restore your European automobile’s smooth acceleration.
