Signs My Porsche’s Automatic Transmission Is Malfunctioning

If you drive a Porsche with an automatic transmission, there may come a point when the transmission goes bad. Kinetech Motor Werkes can help when that day comes. In fact, we can help prevent it by servicing your Porsche’s transmission every 30,000 miles. Here are signs that your Porsche’s transmission needs to be serviced at a minimum or replaced at a maximum.

Check Engine Warning

The check engine light will illuminate on the dashboard if the transmission is having problems. There are system sensors that communicate with the main computer chip, the engine control module. If the transmission sensors send an error code to the module, it will turn on the check engine light.

Hot or Burning Odors

If you have low or old transmission fluid in the automatic transmission, it may start to overheat. You will smell hot and burning odors coming from underneath your Porsche, which is where the transmission is located. Don’t drive your Porsche if anything smells hot or as if it’s on fire.

Leaking Red Fluid

Leaking red fluid spots or puddles on your garage floor are definitely a sign that your automatic transmission is going bad. Transmission fluid can leak from several places in the automatic transmission. Driving with a transmission fluid leak can actually damage the transmission.

Neutral Humming Noises

You should not hear humming or squealing noises when your Porsche is in neutral. Nor, should you hear the gears grind when the automatic transmission shifts them. Any strange sounds are an indication that the transmission is in trouble and needs to be serviced or repaired.

Problems Shifting Gears

If your Porsche is not shifting gears the way it should be, the automatic transmission needs repair. You may find that the transmission is slow to shift the gears or that it skips gears in the cycle. It might also slip out of gear and go into neutral without any warning.

Shaking or Vibrating

When the automatic transmission shifts gears, the operation should be smooth. You will feel your Porsche give a little when the gears shift, but your Porsche shouldn’t vibrate, shake, or lurch. If it does, bring your Porsche to our shop right away.

Unresponsive Transmission

Finally, if the automatic transmission becomes completely unresponsive, it may need to be replaced. When we say unresponsive, we mean the transmission may not shift gears or go into gear.
